When I sit down and think of Papua New Guinea, my homeland
and my country, I remember all the challenges we face.
We are riddled with corruption, we still have a high infant
maternal mortality rate, sexual violence still remains a inadequately
addressed, our cities have high crime rates, our education can’t deliver
properly trained people and health systems still struggles to deliver medicine,
much of our roads and bridges need to be fixed and the list of our problems continue…
But there is still a feeling of pride in the good we have,
our diverse cultures and languages, our oceans, rivers, valleys, forests and
mountains and our family ties.
I think about all of that and I say to myself, it’s worth
fighting for no matter how bad things may get.
Our government has used resources to try and fix our
problems, we continue to borrow from the worlds biggest banks to make
improvements were we lack. We will have to pay back these loans, but we are building a Nation.
As a Journalist, Medical Doctor, Nurse, Scientist, Lawyer or
Engineer, men and women in any profession, each and everyone of us has a duty
to serve, improve and protect our country, to make it a better place for our
children, we must aspire to make our country what we desire it to be, free of
corruption, improved Health care, better education for all, excellent roads
connect all places and safer communities.
Papua New Guineans must be motivated beyond just Family and Money because, we cannot rely on the government to deliver services to us,
we cannot just work to feed our family, we cannot work to become rich or
famous, we must all work to build our nation, so that we can remain a nation in
the many years to come.
I must warn you all that our biggest fears should be
that if we are not careful, our homeland would be taken from us or has it already been taken, we must ask ourselves...
